S'pore swimmer wins silver

SINGAPORE paralympic swimmer Yip Pin Xiu won the silver medal in the finals of the 50m women's freestyle with a timing of 57.43 seconds.

She lost out by just 0.38 seconds.

Earlier on Saturday, Yip had come in first during the heats of the 50m women's freestyle, setting a new world paralympic record.

She beat 13 other competitors with a timing of 57.04 seconds.

The previous record of 58.16 seconds was held by Mexico's Patricia Valle since 2004.

Valle had come in second during the heats, clocking 59.84 seconds.
